Soldier by honorific, devotee by name, and for three decades an agitator for the Himalaya. In 1996 he led a student and youth delegation to North Block to present the Blueprint of Uttarakhand, a case for statehood that put the mountain's ecology at the centre of every development model and asked for a Himalayan resource centre and a Green Bonus for the people who keep the forests.

He was a leading soldier of the Shriyantra Island movement on the Alaknanda at Srinagar Garhwal, and writes at One Himalaya, the Abhiyan's blog, on Himalayan thought and philosophy. On World Mountain Day 2023 he sent the Chief Minister an open letter reading the Silkyara tunnel collapse as the mountain's own message: be careful in time.
